Elden Ring is the best game of 2022 by almost any way you slice it. Not only was it PCGamesN’s pick for game of the year by our widest-ever margin, it claimed the accolade almost universally across game industry outlets. It scooped the top prize at The Game Award 2022, and has the highest metascore of the year for any new release on aggregation site Metacritic. Now, ahead of upcoming DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, you can find out why FromSoftware’s fantasy epic is so beloved as it hits its lowest p...

The Talos Principle 2 is inviting you to try before you buy courtesy of a new Steam Next Fest demo. Described as a "standalone" demo, players can get an early "bespoke" taste of the sequel's "bold new world" through a series of hand-picked puzzles spread across "stunning new locations, as well as a glimpse into the vast narrative that awaits them". As Matt recently summarised for us, the original Talos Principle served up an often fiendishly cerebral bout of puzzle-solving with lasers, time mani...

It's not every day that a roguelike completely takes me by surprise, but I can safely say as much for Gunhead. A mech-based first-person shooter where you glide around a randomly generated alien spacecraft, there's a little bit of Borderlands in the art style and Titanfall 2 in gameplay, even if does do something wildly different from what I was expecting.

Baldur’s Gate 3 gets a lot of things right, but perhaps its greatest asset is narrator Amelia Tyler, who serves as your guide and a sort of pseudo dungeon master, explaining your every thought, emotion, and action as you trudge through Faerûn. But now Tyler is bringing a more sinister energy to the Larian Studios RPG, by streaming her very own Dark Urge run alongside her partner and fellow voice actor Jay Britton, who previously provided voices for Larian’s Divinity Original Sin 2.

Philipp Stollenmayer makes games about bacon, death, cows, physics, pancakes, words and...games themselves. He's one of the finest minds working in indie game development today, if you ask me (not that you did). He makes mobile games, so you've possibly never heard of him. Let's rectify that now, shall we? Stollenmayer was once a gymnast, and you can really see that in his games; many of them centre upon the unpredictable thrill of flinging things around. He was skilful enough to compete in regi...

The folks at GameXplain have put together a side-by-side graphics comparison of Borderlands 3 on the Switch and the PlayStation 5. Given the dated hardware the title is working with, it's doing a decent job recreating the third entry. The most noticeable difference is probab...

Redfall was a disappointment upon release, thanks to its open world which felt - as Ed wrote in his Redfall review - like "playing through an already abandoned live service." Yet though its sparsely populated world made it feel that way, Arkane haven't abandoned Redfall. Yesterday they released its second major patch with a spate of fixes and attempted improvements.

Bandai Namco has filed a new US trademark for the name "Sparking! Zero". A Japanese lawyer representing Bandai Namco filed the trademark application at the United States Patent and Trademark Office on 26th September. Your wish is granted. For several years, it felt like if you’ve played one of Omega Force’s famed Musou action games, you’ve played them all. It seems the team took note of this souring sentiment, however, resulting in more nuanced takes on the formula in more recent titles such as Fire Emblem: Three Hopes and Persona 5 Strikers (the latter co-developed with P-Studio). It’s continued this push with Fate/Samurai Remnant, a new standalone entry in the sprawling Fate franchise that provides an enga...

There’s a lot of people in Starfield, and accidentally upsetting any one of them can spell a one-way trip to the load screen for most players. It’s perhaps one of the things I’ve struggled with most in my time with Bethesda’s latest space epic; perhaps I’m just a little too keen on my trigger finger, but I’ve found myself all too often reaching for the reload key as a stray shot catches an NPC or spaceship and clocks me with instant hostility and a severe bounty. Fortunately, that’s all about to...
