Review: CRKD Nitro Deck For Nintendo Switch - Almost Great, But With One Major Flaw

Almost cracked it. Many companies have tried to capitalise on the problem of drifting Joy-Con sticks, and the usual tactic is to rely on Hall Effect technology, which uses magnets to get around the issue of wearing components. CRKD is the latest to tout a drift-free experience using this technology by way of the Nitro Deck, a hunk of plastic you slide your Switch console into, rather than controllers you slap on its sides. It features all the face buttons, shoulder buttons, sticks, and whatnot t...

CD Projekt Red devs unionise after its third round of layoffs in three months

Staff at CD Projekt Red are uniting with others in the Polish video game industry to unionise. The union was formed after CDPR announced a third wave of job cuts in as many months, driving developers to unionise as a means of "improving their workplace/industry standards in a way that has legal power and amplifies their voices". "We started talking about unionizing after the 2023 wave of layoffs when nine per cent of Reds (that is roughly 100 people) were let go," the union explains on the Gamed...

Amazon Luna subscribers can now buy individual Ubisoft games

Late last year, Amazon Luna and Ubisoft deepened their partnership by allowing subscribers to stream the developer's games that they already own on PC. So it doesn't really come as a surprise that Amazon has chosen to team up with Ubisoft to debut a new feature on its cloud gaming service: The capability to buy games from the platform and not just stream them. Subscribers can now purchase select Ubisoft games from the developer's portal on Luna, and the selection includes several Assassin's Cree...

This means that the original "fall (Q3) 2023" window has now been pushed back to spring (Q2) 2024.

Space Marine 2 developer chimes in on whether it’s Warhammer 40k canon

While Warhammer 40k's roots are bedded deep in the tabletop gaming world, it's nevertheless become one of the most prolific videogame IPs of the modern era. There are some greats among them, including Dawn of War and the original Space Marine, but the middling reception to recent releases like Darktide has left me more skeptical of the brand's place in videogames than I'd like. Now, I'm pinning my hopes on the prodigal son's return, which is truer than ever following our Space Marine 2 interview...

Counter-Strike 2 stops surrender trolls with latest CS2 patch notes

Counter-Strike 2 games can go on for a while, so there’s nothing quite as frustrating as losing a game you had in the bag for reasons outside your control. We’ve all been there; you’re pretty sure you’ve got the other team beat but one person on your team suddenly drops. You’re already close to victory, though, and the four of you can probably close it out - but one of your teammates decides otherwise, and forces a surrender vote through by themselves. No more, however, thanks to the latest set ...

We also learned that Nintendo plans to continue to support the Switch well into FY24/25, which... yeah, that seems obvious.

Dungeons & Dragons and the thrill of nearly losing everything in a game

Dungeons & Dragons and the thrill of nearly losing everything in a game

We came this close to a total party kill in Dungeons & Dragons the other day, which means our whole group was nearly wiped out. And it really rattled me. I think it rattled the whole group. Even the Dungeon Master seemed shaken by it, which I didn't expect. And when he told us that in the 12 years he's been DMing, he's never had an entire group go that close to a total wipeout before, I began to understand why. He was convinced we were done for. I think we all were. Honestly, I never realised a ...

Emma's Adventures: I painted landscapes in the horribly violent world of Rust

Ah Rust, the perfect game for relaxing and enjoying the scenery, right? Wrong. It's a nightmare zone full of death, paranoia and the most irritating players you'll find in a multiplayer game. It's been made that way by design, of course - the driving idea behind Rust is survival, and having to watch your back for other players is a key part of this. Base-building becomes a matter of outwitting other players with solutions such as fake walls, impenetrable cave bases, and chests hidden under bear ...

Biotech company 23andMe, known for its DNA testing kits, confirmed to BleepingComputer that its user data is circulating on hacker forums. The company said the leak occurred through a credential-stuffing attack. A credential-stuffing attack involves user information that has already been compromised (usernames and passwords, for example) from one organization, which a hacker obtains and attempts to reuse with a second organization — in this case, 23andMe. Because of the nature of credential-stuf...
