While it plays its roguelike autobattling safe, Skull Horde does put a smile on my flaming skeleton head

Skull Horde, the dungeon-crawling, minion-raising autobattler from Bore Blasters devs 8BitSkull, is out today. I like, it, mostly – maybe not as much as Alice B (RPS in peace) appreciated its predecessor’s helicopter-mining, but then there’s enough meat on Skull Horde’s magic bones to distinguish it as more than just another Vampire Survivors reanimation.

Preview: SNES RPG Meets Celtic Tradition - Can 'Forge Of The Fae' Stand Out In The Pixel-Art Crowd?

What's the craic? I’ve become a little wary of the plethora of gorgeous retro pixel-art RPGs that keep popping up in recent years. I’m talking about the games that are inspired by classics such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, and EarthBound, or sell themselves as spiritual successors. These often look the part, sucking me in with stunning colours, extravagantly detailed spritework, and the promise of the magic of the classics. Except they often completely misunderstand what made those classics...

Esoteric Ebb review

When I tell people about Esoteric Ebb, I mostly say that I play an idiot, because there's something deeply comforting about being a waylaid government oaf. Sure, I've pledged allegiance to hierarchy and bureaucracy, but there's always the possibility of doing something naughty or exciting or even something unexpectedly brave. As an unassuming representative of the establishment, I dance on the knife's edge of plausible deniability and weaponised incompetency. Ultimately, though, there's always t...

Sony Bravia Theater Bar 5 review: A basic TV sound booster

Not everyone needs a $1,000 soundbar.
