Google begins calling out battery-killing Android apps

Google is living up to its word and posting warning labels for battery-killing apps. 9to5Google spotted Google's rollout announcement, which the company previously said would arrive on March 1. The label says, “This app may use more battery than expected due to high background activity.” If you don't yet see the warnings, they may not have reached you yet. Google says the banners will "roll out gradually to impacted apps" in the coming weeks. Warning labels aren’t the only stick in Google’s figh...

Mouse P.I. for Hire nails its cartoon-noir vibes, but the real surprise is how it plays

Maybe you're intimately familiar with Fleischer Studios' 1930s cartoon classics; maybe your knowledge pretty much begins and ends with Studio MDHR's glorious 2017 video game homage, Cuphead. Either way, you'll immediately know what Mouse P.I. for Hire is going for, and developer Fumi Games pretty much nails the "rubber hose" look. This is black-and-white era Fleischer meets 1940s detective noir; and there's even a bit of old-school Disney thrown in, given the seedy world of Mouse P.I. - Mouseber...

Two genres and seven years on, Remedy attempt to define what a Control game even is in the lead-up to Resonant

Two genres and seven years on, Remedy attempt to define what a Control game even is in the lead-up to Resonant

What is a Control game? It's a fairly reasonable question to ask, as the only follow-up there's been to the original 2019 game in the intervening years (apart from some DLC) was FBC: Firebreak, a live service FPS spin-off that… well, you know. And then last year Remedy revealed what was long dubbed to be Control 2 is actually Control Resonant, and that we won't be playing as Jesse this time around, oh and also, it's a Devil May Cry-esque action game. So with all these shifts, in a new interview ...

One of Marathon's more controversial mechanics brings back a neat idea from Anthem

Bungie's Marathon reboot is out on PC today. Based on last weekend's playtest, it has already been deemed the most difficult, aka "sweatiest" extraction shooter in a while. For as the old Victorian saying goes, women glow, men perspire, and gamers sweat.

Mouse: PI For Hire hands-on report — classic FPS action meets rubberhose animation

PlayStation Blog icon 163 days, 15 hours, 19 minutes ago by Phil Hornshaw

Mouse: P.I. For Hire‘s rubber hose cartoon art style brings it a whole lot of absurd, slapstick humor, which pairs perfectly with its “boomer” shooter gameplay. But underpinning it all is a noir detective story that can be dark and adult as well as goofy and comedic, giving Mouse a fascinating depth that goes beyond...

Several Mario Games Are Now On Sale On The Switch eShop For MAR10 Day (UK)

Take a look. Nintendo has discounted several Super Mario titles as part of its upcoming MAR10 Day celebrations (March 10th... Mar 10.... MAR10, get it?). Granted, the selection is hardly exhaustive and we've been treated to what seems to be the usual discount percentage with these game, but given how infrequently first-party games go on sale, we'll take it. The headline here is arguably Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which falls down from its RRP of £66.99 ...

Google pledges roughly three hours of its annual profit to fight climate change

Google has pledged "at least" $50 million through 2030 on "projects designed to eliminate superpollutants." The company will be joined by a handful of other companies including Amazon and Salesforce in the newly formed Superpollutant Action Initiative. In total, these companies have committed $100 million to the project, hoping to "accelerate the reduction" of superpollutants like methane, black carbon and refrigerant gases. Google says these are responsible for close to half of all planetary wa...

Canadian government says OpenAI will take further steps to strengthen safety protocols

The Canadian government says that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has agreed to take steps to immediately strengthen safety protocols, according to a report by Wall Street Journal. This follows a mass shooting incident at a high school in which OpenAI flagged the suspect and suspended his account, but did not alert authorities. These changes look to primarily involve law enforcement, with commitments to notify police about potentially suspicious use of ChatGPT. We don't have any confirmation from the comp...

Resident Evil Requiem's mystifying Final Puzzle is case-closed after its solution was discovered by accident

The chillingly named 'Final Puzzle' in Resident Evil Requiem filled much of the action-horror game’s launch week with cheevo-hunting intrigue. What began as a simple search, a box-checking exercise to complete the last of Requiem’s optional challenges, has since shredded nerves (and driven at least two RPS guides writers into frazzled despair) as the puzzle revealed itself an almost sadistically opaque game of Simon Says, where Simon doesn’t actually say anything. He wants you to do something wi...
