Back in January, New York-based animation distributor GKIDS made the exciting announcement that it’s bringing Mamoru Hosoda’s library of anime films back to digital and home video release in America, including in 4K UHD editions. That was a fantastic relief for fans of ambitious, intelligently made anime movies. Hosoda’s latest movies, including 2021’s twisted-future “Beauty and...

The Mexican government has filed a lawsuit against Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America in Maps within the United States. Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum said during a press conference that the lawsuit has already been filed, but as The Guardian notes, she didn't say when and where it was submitted. Sheinbaum argued that the Trump administration's order for a name change only applies to the US portion of the oceanic basin and that the US government doesn't have the a...

Lap 1 - SMK, MK64 & Super Circuit. We're just weeks away from a brand new Mario Kart, and to say we're excited is a sizeable understatement. The Booster Course Pass, which arrived in waves starting in 2022, breathed life into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but the base mechanics beneath are the same MK8 we've been playing since May 2014 on Wii U. Don't get us wrong - we've loved every minute with the Switch's best-selling game (and have also enjoyed Live: Home Circuit, and we liked Tour more than most), b...

Over a fortnight since its launch, the state of the Oblivion Remastered's performance on console is still a disappointment. The dust has settled on an ambitious, visually striking Unreal Engine 5 overhaul - which is also faithfully running the original Bethesda logic behind the scenes. However, the more we look at the console versions, the more problematic they become. No platform is spared of issues: whether it's PS5, PS5 Pro or either Xbox Series machine, all struggle with traversal hitches wh...

The First Descendant developer Nexon admits the free-to-play looter shooter feels quiet right now, but says this is because the team is fully focused on the Season 3 update. This is also why the studio is foregoing smaller rollouts in the lead-up to the new season, wanting instead to focus on what’s to come. Not all hope is lost ahead of the new season, however, as Nexon is at least patching the game with some fixes and adjustments as Season 3 approaches.

Not quite a slam dunk. Remember when local, arcade party games were a dime a dozen? The late 2000s and early 2010s were filled with bite-sized, fun, and digestible experiences you could hop in and out of or sit down to play with friends. Well, Dunk Dunk revitalises that spirit in 2025 with a fun local co-op, action-platforming twist on basketball that is a good time with friends, or on your own in brief sessions, especially for its price point. Dunk Dunk is a competitive sports game that takes t...

There are only so many ways a game can begin, or so I thought. I've seen so many beginnings they've all begun to merge into one, and because of it, they've begun to collectively fade from view. A game will begin and a loved one will be taken, and then I'll probably utter a vow of revenge and set about trying to realise it. Something like that. Honestly, I've stopped paying much attention. I don't know who the characters are at the beginning, or the places we're in, so I let myself be swept along...

Welcome to our first weekly roundup of indie game releases, news and trailers. It's impossible to cover the indie scene completely comprehensively — dozens of games hit Steam alone every single day. There are so many indies we'd love to highlight, but we don't have the time to cover each individually. Our goal is to shine a spotlight on the games that grab our attention each week, one way or another. (Feel free to email me about your projects too!) This time around, we've got a spreadsheet-based...

Google has agreed to pay the state of Texas $1.375 billion to settle two lawsuits accusing the company of violating its residents' data privacy rights. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Google in 2022, alleging that it collected users' biometrics without their express consent and continued to track their location even after they've disabled the feature. In the Attorney General's website, his office said that it's the biggest amount Google has agreed to pay to resolve similar lawsuits for da...

While Overwatch 2 Stadium is the breath of fresh air Blizzard’s hero shooter has needed for a long time now, it’s not perfect. Introducing upgrades and consistent growth between matches presents new balancing challenges, and while the WoW and Diablo maker has faced them head on, it’s not been easy. In fact, game director Aaron Keller is admitting that, while Blizzard wants you to feel OP during Stadium matches, some of the builds have “gone too far.” So with the Street Fighter 6 collaboration ar...

A new Diablo 4 update is on the way, and there’s good news for everyone as Blizzard unleashes buffs across every class in its RPG. With Season 8 well underway, the developer has decided to dodge the nerfs and instead bring some of its weaker builds more up to speed. The big winners here are Barbarians and Spiritborns, but there’s always a chance we might see some new favorites pop up as a result of the changes. There’s also a new way to spend your excess Spectral Ash, and some impactful bug fixe...

I still can’t quite believe that Gearbox has brought Borderlands 4 forward. The next entry in the looter shooter series is easily my most anticipated game of 2025, and knowing I’ll be playing it a few weeks earlier than expected leaves a sweet taste in the mouth. Gearbox certainly seems confident about how BL4 is going, then, and that feels especially true from the team’s recent Pax East panel, where they gave us our best look at the FPS yet alongside a mountain of positive quality-of-life chang...

We may one day see StarCraft 3, but the current rumblings in the undergrowth have yet to materialize in any tangible way. What we have had instead are several spiritual successors aiming to fill that gap in our hearts, and among them Stormgate has some of the most established credentials. Many of the team at developer Frost Giant are former Blizzard employees who worked on the likes of Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo. After a shaky launch, the new RTS is now starting to seriously take shape, and...

All together now. The Switch 2 marketing campaign is well underway around the globe and now Nintendo's Australian branch has joined in on the fun with a new commercial. Mad world. Nintendo's new $80 price tag on Mario Kart World has led to concerns more companies will follow with price hikes and Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has now been asked about the possible pricing of Borderlands 4 when it arrives later this year. Speaking at a PAX East panel, he admitted he didn't know the price (yet) but noted how it would ultimately be the publishing house's decision to make. Tariffs now also need to be factored in and the development budget for Borderlands 4 is "more th...
