Gorgeous new expansion proves Age of Empires 2 is the greatest RTS of its kind

What’s your favorite Age of Empires 2 campaign? I’m a bit of a purist - for me, it’s the Genghis Khan story in The Age of Kings, especially the level where you have to destroy Jin’s wonder and smash through the Great Wall of China. But between 42 civilizations, 229 missions, and more than two and a half decades of expansions, there’s plenty of choice. Manor Lords is great. Stronghold is a classic. It’d be fantastic to have Command and Conquer back. But AoE 2 remains the best medieval RTS of all ...

Apple hit with class action suit from developers after App Store ruling

Apple may see further fallout over its failure to comply with a court order that led to last week’s contempt ruling. A class action suit filed on behalf of developers claims that Apple's actions cost Pure Sweat Basketball (and other developers) revenue during the period it was found to have violated the original court order. "Had Apple complied with the injunction, as required, Pure Sweat would have been able to sell subscriptions to its app directly to its customers," the law firm, Hagens Berma...

GTA 6's delay doesn't mean the games industry's in trouble - it's already dead

I saw someone, somewhere, saying something like this recently: it's always easier to play the role of doomsayer than the optimist, because far fewer people seem to care if you're wrong when you're predicting something will fail.

Riot honors first-ever League of Legends World Champion 'Shushei' with free skin

Riot Games is celebrating the life of the late League of Legends pro Maciej 'Shushei' Ratuszniak with an in-game title and skin. Shushei was a Fnatic player who was crowned MVP at the MOBA’s first-ever high-stakes pro tournament. He died late last month. One of the best players in LoL’s history, the Polish midlaner was known for using both AP Alistar and Gragas. Riot Games is now honoring his memory by offering up the latter’s Fnatic skin to those who play three games as the champion.

The Morning After: Remembering the Switch

It’s been eight years since Nintendo released its revolutionary hybrid console, and while many have spent the last couple of those itching for sequel hardware, it’s a good time to recall how Nintendo smashed expectations and continued to forge its own path in gaming, graphical fidelity be damned. Whether it was its core conceit — a handheld and a TV-connected console — or Nintendo’s continued production line of hit games, which included arguably the best game of the decade, we have a lot to say....

Elden Ring On Switch 2 Will Introduce Two Brand New Character Classes

Plus new looks for Torrent. Elden Ring was the first third-party reveal during last month's big Switch 2 Direct, but beyond a vague 2025 release window, little else was confirmed about the so-called Tarnished Edition. Now, thanks to “FROMSOFTWARE GAMES EVENT Spring 2025” held in Tokyo on 6th May, we have a better idea of what to expect in terms of new content (thanks, Famitsu). For starters, two new character classes have been revealed, dubbed “Knight of Ides” and “Heavy Knight”. It's not known ...

Grab a super-fast new Samsung 9100 Pro gaming SSD now and save up to $50

The price of the fastest gaming SSD we’ve ever tested has just dropped by up to $50, thanks to this latest SSD deal. Amazon says it’s a limited-time offer, so you’ll need to get in quick, but it enables you to save $30 off the price of a 1TB Samsung 9100 Pro, and $50 off the 4TB model, giving you a discount of up to 15%. I recently gave this drive a score of 8/10 in my Samsung 9100 Pro review, and my only main criticism was the high price. It’s otherwise incredibly fast, and this Samsung SSD als...

All Revenge of the Savage Planet upgrades

What are the Revenge of the Savage Planet upgrades? As with any decent metroidvania, the exploration and secret-seeking boils down to the quality of the upgrades available. Adding extra jumps into the mix is easy enough, but some extra firepower is required when you come up against impassable webs or rock-solid amber. When you take your first steps on an alien planet, you don’t have much at your disposal in the metroidvania game. You’re quickly directed to the rickety-looking 3D printer to craft...

The new Stellaris DLC has bad Steam reviews, even though lots of players love it

Stellaris remains the ruler of space-based 4X games - one of Paradox’s best works, it still has rave reviews and tens of thousands of daily players. The new DLC has earned plaudits, too. Bringing new ships, new origins, and an overhauled version of the Genetic ascension, Biogenesis could be one of the strongest expansions in the space 4X game’s history. And yet, just one day after it was released, the Steam rating for Biogenesis is an inauspicious ‘mostly negative.’ From the same label that made...
