Whisky Developer Halts Work on Mac Gaming Tool, Endorses CrossOver

Whisky, a popular open-source front-end for Wine that made Windows gaming on Mac more accessible, has ceased development. The project's 18-year-old creator, Isaac Marovitz, announced the shutdown and encouraged users to switch to the paid CrossOver app instead. In offering the reasons for his decision, Marovitz expressed concern that Whisky was potentially harming the Wine ecosystem by competing with CrossOver, a commercial product from CodeWeavers that helps fund Wine development. Nintendo Won't Have Enough Switch 2 Consoles To Satisfy Demand In Japan

Around 2.2 million people applied for the launch lottery. Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has announced that the company will not be able to satisfy demand for the Switch 2 on launch day in Japan. According to a post on social media, approximately 2.2 million people in the region had applied for the pre-order lottery system via the My Nintendo Store; a number which Furukawa states "far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered" at launch.

Oblivion Remastered doesn’t deserve its Steam Deck Verified status

Oblivion Remastered doesn’t deserve its Steam Deck Verified status

The losses just keep coming for Valve and the Steam Deck rating system, as now the Oblivion remaster has been Verified for the handheld, but its performance is far from worthy of the green tick. That's not to say the game should be deemed unplayable, but its rating is not reflective of the experience. The best handheld gaming PC is struggling to run this surprise release, and the Oblivion Remastered system requirements certainly suggested that it was going to be an uphill battle for the console....

Apple and Meta hit with first fines under Europe's new Digital Markets Act

Following reported delays over political concerns, the European Commission (EC) has penalized Apple and Meta over anti-competitive activities. The fines of €500 million and €200 million respectively (around $570 million and $228 million) are the first to be issued under Europe's new Digital Markets Act (DMA), according to the EC.  The fines were issued after what the Commission called extensive consultation with the two companies after the probes were opened in March 2024. Apple violated the DMA...

Best Clair Obscur Expedition 33 settings for PC and Steam Deck

What are the best Clair Obscur Expedition 33 settings for PC and Steam Deck? This cinematic turn-based RPG is very pretty at its best, but sometimes suffers from sluggish performance if you want to maintain high image quality. This exciting new game is also a complete non-starter on Valve's handheld gaming PC. The Clair Obscur Expedition 33 system requirements aren't too intimidating, especially for an Unreal Engine 5 game, but as you'll see from our testing, the more power your gaming PC can of...

Stormgate update fully overhauls the Starcraft 2 spiritual successor’s campaign

I dream of the day we hear about Starcraft 3, or a new Command and Conquer game. But while two of the genre’s fundamental linchpins remain quiet, we’ve seen a real RTS revival with the likes of newcomer Tempest Rising, a fresh Age of Empires 2 update, and the returning Commandos Origins. Stormgate could one day be at the front of that charge, but the free Steam game’s initial launch was met with a rather lukewarm reception. As it nears one year in early access, however, developer Frost Giant Stu...

Overwatch 2 Stadium launch sees Steam player count spike overnight

I've always lamented not playing more of Overwatch 2. Blizzard's iconic hero shooter was one of the first games I really worked with when I joined this industry, and after a (very brief) stint playing semi-professionally, it feels like I should have stuck out more of the sequel. In a world bursting with ability-driven FPS games, I've struggled to find a reason to return to Overwatch 2, but Stadium might just be the push I've needed. Now live and accompanied by the highly requested hero ban syste...

It’s modding time, hero. While Bethesda says Oblivion Remastered doesn’t officially support mods, this is most likely an acknowledgement that it won’t receive a Creation Kit like its open-world cousin, ...

Now, after defendant Jesse Keighin – known under the online alias 'Every Game Guru' – failed to respond to Nintendo's complaints, the latter is seeking a default judgement from the court and a total of $...

After 24 years, Capcom horror game Onimusha Warlords is suddenly much harder

Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alien Isolation, and Dead Space get all the credit, but if we’re talking about the history of horror games, it pays to remember Onimusha Warlords. It’s creepy, gory, and exploits the same fixed camera as its spiritual predecessors, but it’s also faster, more energetic, and more combat driven - its Sengoku-era castle is an imaginative far cry from the horror genre’s standard haunted towns and spaceships. Remastered and re-released back in 2018, while Capcom is focusing...

Oblivion Remastered soars on Steam as Bethesda preserves its timeless charm

Starfield might have launched to big numbers, but Bethesda’s journey into space left many (myself included) feeling a little dry. Despite the scope, or perhaps because of it, the interstellar adventure lost some of that slight goofiness that has been the beating heart of the Elder Scrolls for many years. Now, with the release of Oblivion Remastered, it’s back in spades, and the response has been impressive, racking up a big Steam player count alongside its arrival on PC Game Pass.
