Striden, a wintery looter shooter where you can be a moose with a tank sometimes, is holding an open beta this weekend

Have you ever woken up and thought to yourself "I'd like to be a bear, or perhaps a moose, just for like, a little bit"? Oddly specific thing to think about first thing in the morning, but Striden has you covered at least. It's a looter shooter, yes, it's a survival game, sure, it's a team-based game, why not! Except sometimes, for some reason, you can just turn into different animals to fight your opponents, like a radioactive bear, which I think is very silly, but in a wonderful kind of way. A...

South of Midnight review

South of Midnight review

Few still-perfectly-decent games have felt as desperate a disappointment as this one. South of Midnight is gloriously pretty, a game of sumptuous environmental detail and rich attention. It's one of the best sounding games I've played in an age, with a highly unique, artfully implemented original score woven into its sound design. And it's also extremely well acted, a cut above the vast majority of video games in emotional authenticity and heft. But goodness me can it get tiresome to play.

South of Midnight review - the Shakin’ Bones of something better

An eerie darkness falls over the town of Prospero. The tempest rages, singing songs of destruction. Rain lashes the windows of Hazel Flood’s home as she packs up her things in preparation: a storm’s coming. As her mother, Lacey, returns from work, she tasks Hazel with checking on their neighbors, one of whom is playing music on his jukebox and tempting fate, while the other hunkers down and braces. As Hazel steps back into the flickering neon light, her home detaches from its foundations and is ...

And thanks to the latest iOS 18.4 update from Apple, iPhone 15 Pro models can now get in on the action, too. Until recently, ‌Visual Intelligence‌ was a feature limited to iPhone 16 models with a Camera Control button, which was necessary to activate the feature. However,...

South of Midnight weaves a spellbinding tale of grief, loss, and hope

Polygon icon 143 days, 13 hours, 45 minutes ago by Jason Rodriguez

Early on in my near-12-hour South of Midnight playthrough, I defeated Two-Toed Tom, a gargantuan and legendary alligator that’s said to have stalked the swamplands of Florida and Alabama as early as the 1920s. After breathing a sigh of relief upon completing the battle, I was shocked when Two-Toed Tom swallowed my character, Hazel, whole....

Bananza split. Donkey Kong's new design is perfect. Nope, we're not changing our stance here, and Donkey Kong Bananza solidified it even more. A new 3D Mario isn't here to usher in a new generation of platformers for the new console, but we have plenty of fuzzy monkeys and apes to keep us company over the summer months as we bask in the Switch 2 glow. Donkey Kong Bananza is a new direction for the tie-wearing simian, and we got to spend 20 minutes running around the Ingot Mines and surrounding a...

The world’s smallest pacemaker is injectable and powered by light

Engineers at Northwestern University have developed the world’s smallest pacemaker. It’s so small, as a matter of fact, that it fits inside the tip of a syringe. This means that it’s injectable, so patients could potentially avoid a painful surgery. It safely dissolves into the bloodstream after a time, so it’s a temporary solution. It’s designed for folks who need heart help on a short-term basis, like newborn babies with congenital defects. However, it can work with hearts of all sizes. It’s a...

The cost of building a new gaming PC is about to skyrocket, say manufacturers

The cost of buying parts for your next gaming PC build is about to go up, according to comments made by component manufacturers and custom PC builders. The recently announced import tariffs by the Trump administration look set to hit the price of a number of components, including PC cases and graphics cards. As far as the industry is concerned, tariffs are likely to force consumer prices to rise across the board, no matter whether you're planning the best gaming PC or a more budget-focused build...

iOS 18.4: Stop Your Recent Searches Showing in New Safari Tabs

Apple in iOS 18.4 has introduced a potentially privacy-compromising change to Safari that puts your search history on full display when opening new tabs. Previously in iOS, opening a new tab and tapping the search field brought up the keyboard while continuing to display the personalized Safari home page. However, Apple's latest iOS 18.4 software update modifies how Safari handles new tabs by automatically showing your recent search history whenever someone taps into the search field. Privacy-co...
