Polygon icon 155 days, 9 hours, 58 minutes ago by Maddy Myers

Spring is here, and that means it’s time for spring cleaning! No, I’m not referring to my actual home, which I guess I’m also going to clean at some point, but we aren’t going to discuss that today. I am referring, of course, to the far more soothing experience of cleaning up a virtual space...

Real-time tactics game Strategos aims to outflank Total War with over 120 factions at launch

MicroProse or whatever currently prospers under the decades-old MicroProse banner have announced that they're publishing Strategos, a real-time tactics wargame set in classical antiquity. I hadn't heard of the game before, and my first reaction to the above screenshot was "oh hey, Total War: Rome". Then I veni, vidi, vickied on over to the Steam page, and it turns out that might be a flawed comparison, not least because Strategos is the work of a single designer and programmer with artists worki...

OpenAI delays rollout of ChatGPT's image generator to free users

Free ChatGPT users will have to wait a while longer to be able to use its built-in image generation capability. OpenAI has just launched a feature that will allow users to generate images directly inside of ChatGPT, and it was supposed to roll out to all Plus, Pro, Team and Free users. But according to company CEO Sam Altman, it has been way more popular than OpenAI had expected even though they already had high expectations to begin with. As such, its rollout to the free tier is "unfortunately ...

The first Greedfall 2 update aims to turn the struggling RPG around

Greedfall 2 has so far struggled to live up to its predecessor. The open-world RPG follows in the footsteps of the first with a party-driven blend of tactical combat and character-led dialogue, a la Baldur’s Gate 3 and Dragon Age, but its early access launch was met with a decidedly negative reception. Currently, just 55% of its reviews on Steam are positive - a far cry from the original. As it aims to recover that reputation, developer Spiders launches its first major update, which includes a n...

Steam hit REPO hides real class and an understanding of gaming greats behind its chummy chaos and crude emojis

I have a wonderfully vague memory of a game my older brothers used to play on the Commodore 64 back in the day. It was a platform game, with pixel heroes and floating gantries and ladders and all that jazz, but there was also a wheelbarrow, and you needed the wheelbarrow to hold all the collectibles you picked up. When you'd all but completed each screen - as my memory had it - you then had to leg it back to the wheelbarrow and take it to the next screen where the whole thing was repeated.
