InZOI is the chaotic evil Sims rival I’ve always wanted

Krafton’s InZOI might be the first life sim to properly challenge EA's The Sims. I've been playing around in its gigantic dollhouse for the past week or so, and I'm now more excited than ever by its potential, even if it still has some way to go.

Forgotten 1999 PC classic is completely free to keep, but you need to be fast

When you think of the best classic PC games, point-and-click adventures are always going to be high on the list. LucasArts brought us Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle. Revolution had Broken Sword, and Sierra delivered King’s Quest. But Amerzone is one of those delightful curiosities you might have forgotten, yet stands alongside games like Myst as a true relic of the era, one that floods your brain with nostalgia at a mere mention. Whether you experienced it at the time, or it remains a com...

Despite the backlash, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Naoe is excited for you to play

Masumi is a seasoned musician and an accomplished actor you may have seen in the neon-bathed streets of Yakuza Princess. Her debut videogame role is Naoe in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest triple-A game to face a range of often ill-informed complaints on everything from its inclusion of African samurai Yasuke to Ubisoft's portrayal of Sengoku period Japan, with 'historical accuracy' being weaponized against it. Overall, the latest in the stealth-action turned RPG series has been subject to ...

With Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Ubisoft remains the undisputed king of snackable open worlds

With Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Ubisoft remains the undisputed king of snackable open worlds

It feels like open world games have been having a bit of an extended, existential crisis these past few years. Like there's a sense that something within the classic formula of big maps, question marks and to-be-coloured-in icons that's served us so well, back through The Witcher 3 and Skyrim to at least The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, isn't quite working. That a change or evolution - if not outright ripping-up revolution - of some kind is necessary for the genre to thrive. But also, a bit of a p...

Battle Brothers gets an update two years on from its last one with some fixes and, surprisingly, some new content

There's no better news than "game that hasn't had an update in years just received one", and this week that applies to Battle Brothers. Despite first releasing eight years ago - almost to the day, its eighth anniversary is in a couple of days time on March 24th - and not receiving a new update in two years, developer Overhype Studios has come back to the game not just with some fixes, but with some new content too.

Carimara is a wonderfully grubby looking game about talking to Norman-folklore inspired creeps and exercising ghosts with cards

Everybody loves a good fairytale, but I'm sure you can agree that some kind of twist on a Brothers Grimm story is a bit overdone by now, so how about a game based on folklore from Normandy? Carimara: Beneath the forlorn limbs is exactly that, a self described "short and creepy fairytale" that has a look about it where I can easily imagine walking around its world and think "cripes, it smells a bit around here, 'ey?"

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reached 2 million players, Ubisoft says

Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be shaping up to be the hit Ubisoft needed. On social media, the Assassin’s Creed team announced that the game, which was released on Thursday, has so far drawn in two million players. Assassin’s Creed Shadows was originally slated to come out last fall, but was delayed twice as developers worked to further polish the game and try to ensure everything would be running smoothly on day one.  So far, (mostly) so good, it seems. Engadget’s Kris Holt noted in his review t...

Minecraft is getting a visual overhaul you probably don't need because of all of those mods you've got installed

Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time, but it's looked pretty much the same for the entirety of its almost 14 year run. There's an argument to be made that it's showing its age in places, an argument I won't make because I don't think so myself, but all the same, as revealed during today's Minecraft Live, Mojang announced that the sandbox game is getting a pretty big visual overhaul update called Vibrant Visuals. Now, don't worry, it'll still be all blocks and squares 'n' that, but it w...

Keita Takahashi is probably one of the most recognizable names in games, in no small part thanks to a game that needs no introduction, Katamari Damacy. That game was made at Namco, before it became the Bandai Namco we know today, and Takahashi actually left the studio back in 2006 around the time they merged, and in a recent interview with GameSpark (as translated by Automaton), the developer has shared the reason behind his departure.

Minecraft Dried Ghasts, Ghastlings, and Happy Ghasts

What is the Minecraft Dried Ghast? We've all stepped through a Nether Portal for the first time just to hear that terrifying shriek and be blasted by a fireball. Ghasts are deadly and truly horrifying. Dare we say worse than the Ender Dragon? But just like the Ender Dragon - you went to her turf to steal her egg!! - perhaps there's a justifiable reason for this mob to be a bit grouchy. The Nether can't be the nicest place to live in Minecraft, after all. It's hot and it's dry, and it turns out t...

Maybe now that Silent Hill 4's PC release is getting some cut hauntings you'll admit it's quite good, actually

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I love Silent Hill 4: The Room. It was actually the first game I played in the series, and when I did I wasn't aware that it wasn't universally loved or even liked at its release. Not that knowing other people's opinions would have changed my mind about it, I'm the kind of person that will ardently defend a 6/10, but still, I think there's a lot to love about it… unless you played the game on PC. For a long time, it was missing a few things that were f...

Grab Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 at an all-time low price

Coming 13 years after its predecessor, Focus Entertainment’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a hack ‘n’ slash shooting game (a hack ‘n’ shoot, if you will) that takes the cooperative third-person shooter fun of things like Helldivers 2 and combines it with the pure carnage found Bethesda’s Doom Eternal (and you know, Helldivers 2 already has quite a lot of carnage). Right now, the game is at the lowest price it’s ever seen in the six short months since its release, so if you’ve been meaning ...

City builder Wild West Pioneers turns Red Dead Redemption 2 into a strategy game

I maintain there aren’t enough Wild West games. Red Dead Redemption 2 is obviously the big dog in town, but we’ve seen some strong challengers, from action games like Blood West and Evil West to more strategic names such as Desperados 3 and Hard West 2. Wild West Pioneers, however, pushes the frontier in another direction with a city-building game that’s already caught my eye with its initial reveal. Set to launch in early access this year, it takes the best part of RDR 2 - establishing and mana...
