Will look to "support indie developers and reignite classic franchises". Back in the day, Acclaim Entertainment was a pretty formidable force in the games industry. It has dozens upon dozens of games under its belt, including the first two Burnout titles, the Turok series, NBA Jam, and of course, Mary-Kate and Ashley: Sweet 16 - License to Drive. Ahh, good times. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in September 2004, but now, just over 20 years later, Acclaim is making a comeback.

I’ve only been using Alienware’s new 27-inch 4K QD-OLED gaming monitor for a few days, but I only needed a slice of that time to know that it’s a pretty great value. Having reviewed Sony’s $1,099 InZone M10S 1440p gaming monitor a few months ago, Alienware’s monitor is a much easier sell: it’s cheaper at...

Keeping a Secret. Investment firm Emona Capital LLP announced today that it has completed the successful buyout of Secret Mode — the publisher behind the likes of A Little To The Left, Wobbledogs, Loddlenaut, and more — from Sumo Group, a Tencent subsidiary. This isn't the firm's first foray into the gaming biz, either. Emona Capital currently owns development studios Relic Entertainment and Amber Studio, though it has negotiated this buyout with Secret Mode leadership Ed Blincoe and James Schal...

Golden generation. The Switch turned eight this week and Nintendo Life contributor and friend of the site Gonçalo 'Shiryu' Lopes posted this touching tribute to the console and its effect on his life on Patreon. With kind permission, we're publishing an adapted version of his personal Switch story...The Wii U sadly fizzled so I had picked up a secondhand PlayStation 3 and went on playing 'catch up' with every game I had missed out on. And then, eight years ago, I got home with that bundle you se...

Lenovo hasn’t even released its futuristic laptop with a rollable screen, but it’s rejigged all those parts into a whole new thing for MWC in Barcelona. Officially called the ThinkBook codename Flip AI PC Proof of concept (no typos), the laptop uses the same flexible OLED in its rollable, revealed earlier. However, instead of disappearing inside its chassis, the display folds outwards. This allows what is normally a 13-inch panel to double to 18.1 inches. Notably, because the Flip’s screen bends...

Waymo and Uber's robotaxi service is launching today in Austin, exclusively in the Uber app. The companies announced their plan to expand to Austin and Atlanta in September 2024, and Waymo raised a cool $5.6 billion in October to help pay for it. Unlike the Waymo One service offered to riders in San Francisco and Los Angeles, interested Austin riders will get a chance to ride in a Waymo just by ordering an UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort or Uber Comfort Electric ride, similar to how things are h...

The developers of workplace comedy Say No! More and anti-establishment roguelike Reignbreaker are closing down, and the news comes just two weeks before their final punky action game is due to come out. Studio Fizbin has been struck by ongoing cuts at their parent company Thunderful, they say, and despite pitching follow-up projects to work on after Reignbreaker's release, none of those will go ahead. Which means they'll be winding down at the exact moment you'd hope they'd be celebrating a payo...

"Nintendo is pleased with the Court’s finding". Nintendo has announced that the French judiciary Court has ruled that DSTORAGE SAS, who operates the sharehoster website '1fichier', is liable for failing to remove or block pirated games from the platform. Although the Paris Court of Appeals had previously ruled in favour of Nintendo in 2023, this further clarification from the French judiciary Court is considered the final word on the matter, marking "an end to a long lawsuit".

Today’s modern survival games all have their own unique twists. In DayZ, it’s the realistic weapon mechanics and the complex health system. Project Zomboid is renowned for its sheer scale, while Dying Light has its parkour, and State of Decay 2 has a great co-op mode. But Urban Dead predates them all. Text-based and playable entirely in your browser, especially back in 2005, it was beloved because it was accessible, free, and deceptively deep - it looks simple, but you can get lost in Urban Dead...

The second coming. Anyone who owned a DS in the mid-2000s will likely have fond memories of PictoChat. Whether it was a one-off blast on launch day, or endless hours at a sleepover, Nintendo's little messaging service was a fun way to pass the time and show off your doodling skills when DS mania was all the rage. And now, in the year of our lord 2025, PictoChat is back (thanks, Overkill). At least, it's back on mobile. The fittingly named 'PicoChat for iMessage' is a new iOS app that lets you se...

I can't believe I'm about to complain about treasure goblins in Diablo 4. Why would anyone mind them? They are loot on legs: twisted little demons who spew fountains of treasure if you catch them and kill them before they conjure a portal and run away. Downing one is like downing a boss, in terms of the loot that drops from them - it positively erupts - except you don't have to run through a dungeon to find them and they don't fight back. They're suddenly just there, in front of you, prompting a...

Nothing doesn’t have a Phone 3 yet, instead choosing to make a lateral move to not one, but two new mid-range devices, the Nothing Phone 3a and, intriguingly, the 3a Pro. Reassuringly, Nothing continues to design phones unlike anything else out there. Its retro-future design aesthetic for the exposed-but-not hardware on the rear of the phones, as well as the dot-matrix fonts, animations and software, are all back. Hardware design remains Nothing’s biggest strength. I get asked about the Nothing ...

There comes a time in every cat owner's life where they must ask themselves: how large would this creature need to be before it attempted to bat me around like a catnip mouse? I suspect the answer is "only as large as it needed to be", so it's fortunate that Monster Hunter Wilds' Palicoes are apparently bred for helpfulness. Is installing a mod to the action game that makes them tall as humans a form of gene splicing? Don't worry, hunter. Gene splicing is how nature heals itself.
