Apple's new entry-level iPhone 16e has inherited the Action button first seen on the iPhone 15 Pro and now found on all iPhone 16 models. The Action button replaces the traditional Ring/Silent switch – a staple of the iPhone since it launched in 2007. For users unfamiliar with the Action button, here's a rundown of its functions – including one that is (currently) exclusive to iPhone 16e. The Action button replaces the single-function switch used to toggle between ring and silent, offering addit...

Apple is collaborating with the National Hockey League (NHL) to equip on-ice officials with Apple Watches featuring an app designed to help officiating during games (via The Verge). The NHL Watch Comms app allows referees to receive in-game updates by syncing with the NHL's Oasis system. Officials can track the game clock and receive alerts for key game events without diverting their focus. This allows referees to avoid locating video boards while officiating. The app includes haptic feedback to...

I’m almost intimidated by GTA 6 - I’ve been covering games for the best part of 15 years now, but it’s hard to remember a launch where there’s this much anticipation and expectation. Before Rockstar goes back to Vice City, however, there’s one last big change coming to the Grand Theft Auto 5 PC version. Better visuals, improved menus, new vehicles, and updated controls are all part of the impending next-gen update. With the GTA 5 Enhanced Steam page already live, you can get even better prepared...

YouTube channel REWA Technology today shared an iPhone 16e teardown video, providing a look inside Apple's new entry-level smartphone. In its iPhone 16e announcement video, Apple said the device has a new internal design that allowed for a larger battery. The video shows that the iPhone 16e has a 4,005 mAh battery capacity, which is a 12% increase compared to the regular iPhone 16 with a 3,561 mAh battery capacity at the same voltage. For those who prefer watt-hours as a unit of measurement, the...

It is kind of strange to think of Lord of the Rings as a media franchise. Though there have been many adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, they have really only come from two sources — the Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit. Whether straight adaptations like the Peter Jackson trilogies, the Ralph Bakshi...

The only surprise in Amazon’s reveal of Alexa+ this week was the price. With inflation rampant and many more impactful subscription services to choose from, $20 per month is an absolutely bonkers price for an as-yet unproven AI chatbot. Recall that Alexa has historically not cost anything as long as you've had hardware to run it. The same goes for Google Assistant (and now the basic version of Gemini) as well as Apple’s Siri. They’ve always been tools to enhance hardware, not the product itself....

PUBG: Blindspot, the first proper PUBG spin-off, is a bit of an oddity. Despite the Steam page for its Next Fest demo saying the game was "inspired by PUBG: Battlegrounds", and has a dinky little PUBG sticker above its logo to prove it's part of the wider PUBG universe, it's pretty clear from the second you choose a character and jump into a 5v5 Demolition match that another game has been a much bigger inspiration here: namely, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege.

Microsoft is officially getting rid of Skype as of May 5 and encouraging its users to pick Teams once and for all. In its announcement, the company stated that the move will allow it to "streamline our free consumer communications offerings so we can more easily adapt to customer needs." Microsoft is also far from subtle in its push for Teams and included step-by-step instructions for migrating over. All users need to do is log in with their Skype credentials and their chats and contacts should...

Meme coins are not securities and, hence, aren't subject to federal laws regulating the financial instruments, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission. The agency has issued its official stance on meme coins, comparing them to collectibles, since their value is "derived from speculative trading and the collective sentiment of the market." Meme coins do not fit the definition of securities under the law, SEC said, because they do "not generate a yield or convey rights to future income...

Despite the Jennifer Coolidge cameo. Try to stop it all you can, we are rapidly approaching the Minecraft Movie's release date on 4th April and even the new 'Final Trailer' hasn't convinced us about Jack Black's latest trip into the world of video games. The new trailer does pack in a lot of new content, we'll admit. There are baby pandas, talking Piglins, some pretty horrific-looking villagers, Elytra wingsuits and enough exposition that we can almost map out the entire plot of the film beat fo...

AMD's decision to start off with mid-range RDNA 4 GPUs now seems prescient. NVIDIA's high-end RTX 5090 and 5080 are already selling well beyond their absurdly high prices, if you can find any in stock at all. And while the RTX 5070 Ti impressed us, it's already selling for close to the 5080's $1,000 launch price. Now AMD's Radeon 9070 and 9070 XT, which are set to arrive on March 6, have the chance to swoop in and deliver some serious competition. Based on early briefings from AMD, which include...

Choices, choices... What's the most important part of a Pokémon game? The roster of 'mons? The setting? The story? Well, sort of the first, but tangential — it's the starter Pokémon. We now know just who the starter trio of Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be. And, similarly to Legends: Arceus, it's a triple threat of returning favourites. Chikorita, the Leaf Pokémon; Tepig, the Fire Pig Pokémon; and Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokémon. Hoo boy.

Apple has offered a reason why the iPhone 16e doesn't include MagSafe, one of the more notable omissions from its latest entry-level smartphone. According to Apple representatives who spoke to Daring Fireball's John Gruber, MagSafe is not included in the iPhone 16e because "most people in the iPhone 16e's target audience exclusively charge their phones by plugging them into a charging cable." These users apparently tend not to use wireless charging at all, and when they do use it, Apple believes...
