Savage, post-apocalyptic survival game Icarus is already a sprawling endeavor, but it’s about to transform the way you approach boss fights as a new DLC arrives. RocketWerkz, the studio founded by DayZ creator Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall, is preparing to bring new paid DLC Great Hunts Campaigns to its open-world survival crafter alongside a free update that it promises will “enhance how everyone interacts with bosses in Icarus.”

Not every roguelike needs to focus on action. I love darting around arenas and turning bad guys into paste, but the replayability of the genre lends itself to so many unique ideas that I'm always on the hunt for what developers are coming up with next. That's why I've been keeping an eye on RoGlass, which pins its focus on a puzzle-like mechanic that gets infinitely more engaging as you play. More people need to try it, and the latest update and sale is the perfect time.

I don’t want to get too negative about everything, but with videogames, in general, it feels like there’s this weird paradox. They look more and more realistic - poly counts, high-resolution textures, better physics, whatever - but correlative (or anti-correlative) to that visual fidelity, it’s like videogames are less and less interested with actual reality. It’s all fantasy. All sci-fi. All open-world, consequence-free abandon. And all that’s fine, in measured doses, but these genres and these...

Take the single–player card battling of Balatro and drizzle it lovingly over the strategic castle building of Age of Empires, and you serve up something like Castle V Castle. Inspired by classic browser game Castle Wars, this clever new turn-based strategy game from solo developer Nopopo and publisher Future Friends is funded in part by Slay the Spire dev Casey Yano (via the Among Us team’s indie publishing arm Outersloth), and it has a free demo on Steam that you can try right now.

Baldur’s Gate 3 might have been a surprise megahit, but the world of Dungeons and Dragons videogames has been home to stellar experiences for decades. DnD’s journey from tabletop to screen has been a long and varied one, and in all that time 2002’s Neverwinter Nights remains a classic. BioWare’s foray into the Forgotten Realms is still worth a revisit today, especially since developer Beamdog updated it with the Enhanced Edition. In fact, a new DLC just dropped for the age-old adventure, and the...

The good, the good, and the uhhh... Hello folks, and welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl! Last time, we looked at Star Fox 64, and gosh, it was quite a close match. Both designs are pretty great in our eyes, but ultimately Japan won the day with 54% of the vote, while the Western design managed to nab 46%. Well done, Japan!

Following multiple rumours. Switch 2 placeholder prices have been popping up all over the internet in recent weeks, so is there any truth to these retailer listings? Speaking on the latest episode of Kit & Krysta Podcast, a former Nintendo sales lead has apparently "set the record straight". When asked if retailers are in the loop about the price of Nintendo's new and highly anticipated next-generation hybrid hardware, he claimed these stores know "nothing" and "certainly not price". Here's the ...

South Korean game development studio Pixelity says it’s working on a series of XR games based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the first one will be released next year. In an emailed announcement, the studio said it’s planning a trilogy “based on the world and events of all 26 episodes” of the beloved anime. We don’t have much in the way of details just yet, but Pixelity says, “Players will experience the narrative through the eyes of an original character, exploring the world of Neon Genesis Eva...

It’s not every day that we get to see a glimpse of what a mysterious space plane is up to in orbit. This week, the US Space Force shared a picture it says was snapped last year by the X-37B, showing Earth in the distance and a bit of the craft itself. X-37B launched on its seventh mission at the end of 2023, though not much is known about what that mission entails. Its previous flight, which wrapped up in 2022, set a new endurance record for the space plane, logging 908 days in orbit. There isn'...

There’s a lot to take in in the announcement trailer for Shotgun Cop Man: the wide-bodied, thumb-headed protagonist; Satan in the style of Handsome Squidward; a demon boss with a lethal fart(?) stream; intense, action-heavy platforming with shotgun-based movement. The upcoming new game from DeadToast Entertainment, the solo developer behind My Friend Pedro, looks absolutely unhinged. Its hero’s core mission? “Go to Hell, arrest Satan.” Publisher Devolver Digital dropped the trailer on Friday, an...

Treasure maps are optional objectives in Avowed that come with terrific rewards in exchange for solving head-scratching puzzles. If Civilization 7 isn’t quite floating your boat yet, don’t worry. Every new generation of the mighty Firaxis 4X games feels like it takes some time to settle. There are balancing issues to sort, tweaks to be made, and it’s tough to compare a newly launched game with its previous installment, now polished to perfection and with a full complement of DLC. The natural conclusion, then, is that now is the best time to buy Civilization 6 - and that thought would be correct, because if you’re quick yo...

Bad Bunny - DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS You don’t need me to tell you to go listen to Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS — if you’re on the internet enough, you’ve been told to do so already. It showcases how modern pop, rap and R&B can be seamlessly combined with old-school, traditional sounds from different cultures (...

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the full launch of Die in the Dungeon ever since I first played its free prequel. The new roguelike deckbuilder has just hit Steam, and much as Balatro diverged from the traditional format popularized by Slay the Spire, it does something similar with a clever dice-based combat system and a tremendously charming art style. Now, developer Atico has finally launched Die in the Dungeon into early access, and if you’re tempted to give it a try you can even grab it cheaply a...

I’ve seen some unusual gaming PC builds in my time, but this futuristic space pod build is certainly up with the best with them. Named Ugahari, a word meaning frugal or modest in Indonesian, the philosophy behind this build is set around a hypothetical apocalypse, using a “satirical, surrealistic style” to form the design of a pod, lost in time, and reclaimed by nature. That’s certainly a bold story. I like it when a designer creates a PC build with personality behind it, abandoning the typical ...
