Forgive the surprise, but 80s action movies haven't typically made for the smoothest transitions to modern video games. Predator had Predator: Hunting Grounds, for instance, "a naff waste of great material". Terminator had Terminator: Resistance - "generic and boring". The infamous Aliens: Colonial Marines was admittedly followed by Alien Isolation and the enjoyable enough, fun-flamethrowing-with-friends of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, but still. When RoboCop: Rogue City was announced and subsequentl...

Counter-Strike 2 has enormous boots to fill, and it’s still early days. As the successor to the most popular multiplayer shooter of all time, Valve’s new FPS naturally needs a little time to settle and ease in. CS2 could be better than CSGO, but perhaps, less than a month after launch, we’re not there yet. At the same time, Counter-Strike players have been understandably frustrated about CSGO being - seemingly - removed from the internet forever. But actually, that’s not the case. If you’re not ...

They have until April '24. With the news that the Wii U and 3DS online services will be shut down in 'early April' 2024, fans are undoubtedly dismayed at the idea of no longer being able to play certain games online. One such title is the original Super Mario Maker, which launched on the Wii U back in 2015 before a 3DS version followed in 2016. The key thing with this one is that the vast selection of community-built levels will be unplayable once the online servers shut down (presumably, the or...

Utah has sued TikTok over child safety issues and the company's China-based ownership, CNBC has reported. In the complaint, attorney general Sean Reyes called the app "an addictive product" and accused it of misleading users about its relationship with China-based parent company ByteDance. The state recently enacted some of the strictest social media laws in the country, requiring parental permission for teens to use social media. The lawsuit compares TikTok to a slot machine that provides "dop...

If you have several Google Nest speakers, Chromecast and smart displays, you can add each of them to several different groups in the Google Home app again. The company implemented changes last month, which would allow certain devices to be added to only one speaker group at a time in response to Sonos' patent lawsuit. This development, announced by the Nest team, undoes that change. If you'll recall, Sonos sued the company back in 2020, accusing it of infringing on several patents it holds, incl...

Duolingo is launching its new music course sometime this fall. The educational tech company first announced that it was gearing up to add music lessons to its repertoire back in September, promising "hundreds of bite-sized lessons" that can teach you music with the help of over 200 tunes. Duolingo, of course, has turned music learning into a gamified experience, dividing lessons into levels you have to complete and docking points (or hearts) whenever you enter an incorrect answer. You'll start ...

More stable than ever before. Nintendo has rolled out a new update for the Switch and it bumps the system firmware up to Version 17.0.0. Yes, it's a major one, but there's seemingly not much going on other than the usual stability improvements to enhance the overall experience. Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo's official support page:

"I ain't going all the way to Best Buy just to play a demo". Last week, a demo for Super Mario Bros. Wonder rolled out at Switch kiosks across the US. Nintendo has now officially announced this on social media, and it's got many fans calling for a Switch eShop demo that they can play at home. Unfortunately, not everyone can get to one of these kiosks, and many people are located outside of the US, so it's impossible to try out this demo right now. Here's just a handful of these requests:

Minecraft players have launched a petition demanding developer Mojang ends its annual mob vote - in which the community gets to vote on a new creature to be added to the game - saying the process 'leaves fantastic ideas on the cutting room floor' and only serves to highlight Minecraft's anaemic content release cycle. The Snapdragon X series is set to come out in 2024, and Qualcomm claims that it will mark an "inflection point for the PC industry" thanks to the "next-level performance" brought by the new chips. Snapdragon X chips will use the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which is built on the chip technology that it got when it purchased Nuvia. Founded by ex-Apple chip designers, Nuvia designed custom Arm-based chips that are expected to...

California became just the third state in the nation to pass a "right to repair" consumer protection law on Tuesday, following Minnesota and New York, when Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 244. The California Right to Repair bill had originally been introduced in 2019. It passed, nearly unanimously, through the state legislature in September. “This is a victory for consumers and the planet, and it just makes sense,” Jenn Engstrom, state director of CALPIRG, told iFixit (which was also one of SB2...

Last year Meris took its digital effects prowess and built a ludicrously powerful guitar pedal, the LVX. Now the company is back with another modular creation, the MercuryX, but instead of delay it's all about epic reverbs. Like the LVX the MercuryX is built around a "advanced ARM processor" of unspecified origin and a 24-bit AD/DA converter with a 32 bit floating point DSP. It also inherits the LVX's large LCD for navigating the interface and the basic scheme of combining structures, types, and...

Notably, premium DLC could not be ...
